Waiting for Verdot (vair-dough)

Prologue: "Guenoc Estate wines are impeccable...Guenoc is the only major winery that is aggressively planting the most underrated Bordeaux grape, Petit Verdot," by Prof. John Baxevanis in his "Wine Regions of America."

The Rest of the Story:
My wife loves Chardonnay,
My son sips Cabernet,
But I want them to know
I'm waiting for Verdot.

Happily, my wait is over. Since Dr. Baxevanis wrote those words five years ago, Guenoc Petit Verdot has come out of hiding. It's a body contact wine, big and beautiful. I served it with prime rib to a visiting physician and wine collector. He pronounced it one of the best California reds he had ever tasted and phoned the winery for a case.

Postscript: Not only does this Verdot hit a high note, but so does co-proprietor and Marketing Director Karen Magoon, who is listed in the European "Who's Who in Opera." "Songs of Innocence" with Karen Melander-Magoon, soprano, and Dr. Lynn Wheeler, piano, is her latest lovely CD. Proceeds go to the non-profit Childrens Awareness organization.
