Seasonal Southwest Cooking: Contemporary Recipes and Menus for Every Occasion by Barbara Pool Fenzl, is just that: a full-color, fully illustrated compilation of recipes from a true expert on the culinary bounties of the Southwest. Chef, teacher, and author, Fenzl reveals secrets and insights gained from her impressive culinary career and 36 years of Southwest living. Within the pages of Seasonal Southwest Cooking she presents more than 150 original recipes that burst with the colors, textures, and flavors of the region—the tome faithfully pays homage to her home. Inside, readers will find recipes such as:
Chicken Chipotle Nachos with Avocado Cream
Posole with Chicken and Tomatillos
Smoked Trout, Apple and Pecan Salad
Ostrich Kebabs with Chile-Honey Glaze
Huevos Rancheros Verde with Black Beans
Caramelized Corn with Peppers and Cotija
Tres Leches Chocolate Cake
Designed to honor the changing seasons of the region, which reveal a myriad of aromas and flavors, the book includes a special section with menus for every time of the year. In the winter, piñon smoke curls from Santa Fe's chimneys and bowls of steaming posole greet guests. Spring brings desert blooms in a riot of colors and tables are strewn with garden-fresh salads and vegetables. Summer offers thunderous afternoon monsoons and picnic baskets brimming with simple, savory snacks. And autumn feasts feature smoky chipotle turkey and long-anticipated roasted green chiles.
