Questions & Comments

Dear Foodwine.com,

My name is Candy Melnikoff and I am the Den Leader for my sons Cub Scout Den. We are Den 3 of Pack 90 in Woodcrest, Ca. We have our annual Blue and Gold Dinner coming up in February. This year the theme chosen has been Passport to another country. We have chosen Australia for our Den. Each of my 7 boys and their families have to bring an Australian dish, or at least something we can claim is eaten in Australia. They won't let us get away with hamburgers........ I am searching for easy and preferably inexpensive dishes which our boys and their family can make together. If you have any suggestions, please contact me.

Thank You,

Candy Melnikoff & Den 3

Dear Foodwine.com,

I am a Girl Scout leader. We are studying Australia. I am in great need of some easy recipes for girls to make. If you may have something like this could you please help me out.

Thanks a bunch,

Toni Miller

Dear Candy and Toni,

You'll find some Down Under recipes in Australia Section—just go to Global Destinations and click on Australia.

Be sure to check out each cookbook as they all have sample recipes, and don't forget your bush tucker—witchetty grubs and such should really get the scouts ready for a wild camp out! (Perhaps they can harvest or collect their own grubs for dinner?)

Dear Foodwine.com,

Oh!!!! what a wonderful website. I'm so glad I found it.

I am a newly hired airline employee and one of my first global trips will be to Indonesia.

It was sheer enjoyment to review your Indonesia page. I'm so excited.

I believe I will be totally prepared for Indonesia.

Trinidad is also on my travel plan. I would love to see your sight include a Trinidad page. I am absolutely mad about the Trinidadians Black Cake. It's also called Christmas Cake. It's made with fruits and a great deal of liquor. Apparently, the cake is made then soaked with the liquor and sits covered and untouched for many months before eating.

Your site is so thorough. Would you consider including Trinidad to your website repertoire.

I look forward to receiving your newsletter.

2 thumbs up!

I am in the cooking with kids business in Omaha, NE. I teach kids how to cook and have cooking parties. I loved your book, and feel that parents would love them too. Do you sell at a wholesale price? Thank you for your time!

Joy Britton

Dear Joy,

I'm so pleased you like my book Cooking with Kids For Dummies. As the author I don't sell the books myself, but you can buy retail copies at a 20% discount through this link at Amazon.

OR, discounts for educators are offered by the publisher, IDG Books (which is now HungryMinds Books). Call them at 800-434-2086.

Happy cooking!

Dear Foodwine.com,

hey this is lauren i am doing a 16 page report for history on the country romania and i was wondering if u could send me a recipe for a romanian food or a country that borders romanias recipe but i most likely need a recipe for romania. thanks alot.

Dear Lauren,

How about a Transylvanian recipe or two? Transylvania is part of Romania, and my article on "Transylvanian Dinner: Going for Goulash" features not only the classic paprika-based dish (also enjoyed by Count Dracula and other Romanians) but a recipe for actual Transylvanian Cabbage—how's that for hitting the nail on the old Romanian cabbage head?

Good luck on your report (does the teacher get to taste test? If so, maybe you'll get an A!)

Dear Foodwine.com,

I love your web page!

Your web page is part of what makes the Internet so worth while. Granted, you are not doughing out recipes (tee, hee) on rocket science, or molecular structure, but your page makes my life so much easier.

I came to your web page during one of my cooking vensies to find out how many tablespoons are in an ounce. BAM! It was right there.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Dear Foodwine.com,

How could you include the cuisine of such a barbarous and abhorrent people as the japs?

I half-expected to see entries for serving World War II American prisoners of war being served with noodles! Not to mention the flesh of the thousands of dolphins, porpoises, whales, and bears.

Dear Foodwine.com,

John Ryan's column was THE reason I came to your site. Would he be willing to do at least a Q & A? Please, please, please try and get him back.

Susan Jolly-Woodruff

Dear Susan,

John Ryan has agreed to return beginning March 1, 2001. We think your letter and others helped convince him.
