Part III:
Seasonings of the Witch
for Black Magic Month
by Kate Heyhoe
When I look over my shoulder,
What do you think I see?
Some other cat looking over
His shoulder at me
And he's strange, sure he's strange.
You've got to pick up every stitch,
You've got to pick up every stitch,
Beatniks are out to make it rich,
Oh no, must be the season of the witch,
Must be the season of the witch, yeah,
Must be the season of the witch.
—Donovan
Black-Magic Month continues with more devilish inspiration...
Time for a trip to hells' kitchen—not the New York neighborhood, but the Texas-Mexican region where chiles make some meals hotter 'n hell. But don't grab the fire-extinguisher yet: these dishes have just the right amount of spice and heat, and the sweet treats for dessert will get you fired up with complements.
I consulted David Garrido and Robb Walsh's mouthwatering book, Nuevo Tex-Mex, a cuisine near and dear to my heart. In my search of more black and orange dishes, I came up with the glowing recipes below.
Musical Selection: Season of the Witch, Donovan
Other Musical Suggestions for your Black Magic Party:
Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, as sung by Ella Fitzgerald:
I'm wild again
beguiled again
a simpering whimpering child again
bewitched bothered and bewildered
Am I
Couldn't sleep, and wouldn't sleep
when love came and told me
I shouldn't sleep
Bewitched bothered and bewildered
Am I
Black Magic Woman, by Santana or Fleetwood Mac:
I got a Black Magic Woman
I got a Black Magic Woman
Yes, I got a Black Magic Woman,
She's got me so blind I can't see;
But she's a Black Magic Woman and
she's trying to make a devil out of me
