Makes 6 servings
Mrs. Hatch's voice: George Bailey! What's he want?
Mary: I don't know. (to George) What do you want?
George: Me? Not a thing. I just came in to get warm.
Mary: (to Mother) He's making violent love to me, mother.
2 pounds (920 g) asparagus, trimmed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup (40 g) seasoned bread crumbs
1 lemon
Steam asparagus 5 to 7 minutes, until tender but not mushy. In a small pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add bread crumbs and sauté about 5 minutes, until dark brown, being careful not to burn. Squeeze lemon juice over asparagus and sprinkle generously with bread crumbs. Serve immediately. This also works well with broccoli.
