The visionaries behind this site (if still alive after all their hard work)have outdone themselves. This site is an exhaustive database of hotel accomodations and restaurants encompassing all of North America. Whether your planning a vacation or just interested in the dining spots your hometown has to offer, this is definitely a site to be utilized.

Focusing on restaurants, I selected Washington, DC on the imagemap, and enjoyed the comforts of armchair travel to some of my favorite eating establishments. Getting around was a cinch. I was able to simplify my restaurant search by choosing a cuisine type. There are about 100 types offood offered from which to choose, including Thai, Afghan, Low-Fat, Bagels, Brew Pubs etc. I streamline my search further to include the metropolitan and/or surrounding areas. All in all, I was amazed to find that quite a few restaurants have their own websites and many small mom-and-pop restaurants, those I considered hidden-jewels, were included right alongside the bigtimers.

My search for South American cuisine didn't list my old favorite, The Park Cafe, but took me to the website of a Cuban restaurant, The San Antonio Bar & Grill not far from my old home on Capitol Hill. The co-owner, a Cuban-born artist, showcases his artwork on the site and it looks quite impressive. The main menu features assorted Tapas, Chili Rellenos, Seafood and specials including: Cuban Picadillo, Puerto Rican Piononos, Bistec a la Milanesa and Arroz con Pollo. Prices and descriptions are offered too. A small box next to a margarita glass at the top of the page tells me that all I have to do is mention I saw the restaurant's home page to receive a free margarita on the rocks with the purchase of an entree....and a plane ticket to the East Coast!! I'm tempted.

As my search continued, I found that for many restaurants only an address and phone number are offered, but that's a starting point. If your search for a particular fare comes up empty, you'll most likely find what you're after by perusing the links to local restaurant guides, regional magazines and other national dining links.
