by Dana Slatkin
Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, California, is an iconic, luxury seaside resort that is often frequented by the Hollywood elite. In her new cookbook, The Summertime Anytime: Cookbook Recipes from Shutters on the Beach, co-owner Dana Slatkin utilizes her cooking skills and years of experience to bring 130 recipes and style secrets from the famed hotel into every home.
As a year-round beach resident and professionally trained chef, Dana Slatkin knows that a perfect day at the beach revolves around the weather. The clever organization of The Summertime Anytime Cookbook takes this into account, offering picnics and market-fresh meals to share. Melon Agua Fresca and White Asparagus Salad with Blood Orange Vinaigrette are for "Sunny Days," while "Cloudy Days" call for comfort foods served family-style, including Strozzapreti with Sausage, White Beans, Broccolini, and Tomato. "Balmy Nights" provide the perfect setting for entertaining with some good music and sexy sunset cocktails such as Shutters Sky-Blue, and "Stormy Nights" are an excuse to unwind with some heartwarming soups and homemade facials, and indulge in a bit of romance by the fire. And let's not forget "Misty Mornings," perfect for a delicious smoothie, breakfast in bed, or a joyful brunch with such favorites as Lemon-Ricotta Pancakes and Giant Walnut Sticky Buns.
The Summertime Anytime Cookbook infuses everyday life with the magic of a summer on the beach. Dana explains, "Each recipe is an invitation to slow down, shed the need for domestic goddess perfection, and welcome good company into your home-no matter how far you may be from a real beach or what the weather has in store."
Chock-full of signature dishes from the hotel's restaurants, casually elegant decor tips from celebrity designer Michael S. Smith, and homemade beauty treatments from Ole Henriksen of ONE the Spa, The Summertime Anytime Cookbook is a must-have addition to every home cook's kitchen.
