Napa Valley Wine Country

Review by Debbie Mazo

Between two mountain ranges, overlooking vineyards and natural mineral springs, lies the Napa Valley Wine Country. With its perfect mixture of climate and soil, the Napa Valley is home to some of the world's finest wine producers, restaurants, and resorts. The Napa Valley Home Page, hosted by Freerun Technologies, highlights this area of northern California that includes over 240 wineries founded as far back as the 1880's.

Before heading to Wine Country, browse through Visitor's Information where you'll find a complete guide to California's vine lands. As famous as the valley's wineries are its eating establishments with choices to suit every taste and budget.

Dining and Delis help you choose some of the area's best from dining outdoors to riding through the vineyards in the Napa Valley Wine Train's dining cars.

For wine-tasting fans, the site helps you plan your tour at one of the many wineries along the vine-covered hillsides that produce vintage for the growing global wine market. Organized by categories, the Wineries list includes everything from family-owned wineries to wineries off the beaten path.

For a taste of contemporary art, visit the sculpture garden at the Clos Pegase Winery or stop by the Hakusan Japanese Gardens for a self-guided tour of the sake brewery.

To keep your visit to the Napa Valley alive, you can sample some of the site's recipes when you get home. For a light entrée, try Robert Mondavi Winery's Filet of Salmon with Pinot Sauce. Or, if you're looking for a dessert that combines the best of both worlds, Domaine Chandon's Cheesecake with Strawberries Marinated in Sparkling Wine may be what you're looking for. www.dchandon.com/recfeb.html#b Along with your Napa Valley memories, these recipes will have you popping the cork in no time.
