Robert Mondavi Winery

106. Robert Mondavi Wines Below $25
...How Good Are They?

Wines from France, Chile, Italy. California Coastals, Cal-Ital wines...they were all from Robert Mondavi, and mostly below $25. The stature of Mondavi ultra-premium wines is beyond question, but how do the Mondavi bottles stack up against the competition in the lower price ranges? In my last blind tasting to explore this, eleven of them were matched against equal-priced counterparts from around the world.

I have written the score on the sack covering each bottle. Together, we'll discover the winners one at a time as I write. I'll pull out the lowest-scoring victor first.

Comments

So, Mondavi won in a squeaker, 6 matches to 5. However, all the whites & all the reds that won for Mondavi were more recent vintages than those that won for the rivals. Bodes well for Mondavi's future.
