Charles Krug

A picnic at today's winning winery.

Your author conducted the tastings on the buses to the winery.

"Recommend a good Merlot that won't bust my budget."

Wine of the Day

Charles Krug Merlot, Napa Valley, $16
Composition—80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon
Aging—13 mo. in French and American oak at the winery plus two more years in my cellar, so this was the 1996. Suggest you do the same...buy two bottles of the '97, the current release. Try one now and one in the year 2002.
Contact—Ken Freeze, (800) 710-9333, FAX (925) 370-9811
More on Krug—See WineDay Jan. 8, 1999 titled, "How To Start A Winery".

Postscript

This Merlot constitutes less than 1% of Krug production, that totals nearly one million cases a year!
