The "Hass-like" Green Variety

Gwen is similar in appearance, taste and texture to Hass. Fruit size is slightly larger than Hass. Skin remains green when ripe.

Description:

  • medium to large fruit.
  • ranges in size from 6 to 15 oz. (60 28 count).

Appearance:

  • green skin is pebbly and thick but pliable.
  • flesh is gold green and creamy.

Ripe Characteristics:

  • green skin turns dull.
  • fruit yields to gentle pressure when ripe.

Handling Information:

  • excellent shelf life.
  • ships well.
  • responds well to pre conditioning.
  • stores extremely well when ripe.

California Avocado Tacos

Tacos:
  • 1 California Avocado
  • non-stick cooking spray
  • 1 onion
  • 2 sweet green peppers
  • 2 sweet red peppers
  • 1 cup cilantro
  • 1-1/2 cups fresh tomato salsa
  • 12 flour tortillas

Spray skillet with non-stick cooking spray. Cut onion and green and red peppers into julienne strips and sauté lightly. Mince cilantro and cut avocado into 12 slices. Warm tortillas in oven and fill with sautéed peppers and onions, cilantro, avocado slices and salsa. Fold tortilla over and serve. Serves 12.

Fresh tomato salsa:
  • 1 cup fresh tomatoes, diced
  • 1/3 cup onions, diced
  • 1/2 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/3 teaspoon jalapeño peppers, minced
  • 2 teaspoons cilantro, minced
  • 1 pinch cumin
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons fresh lime juice

Prepare salsa in advance as follows: Mix together all ingredients and refrigerate.

Per serving: 170 calories, 4g protein, 29g carbohydrates, 6g total fat, 3g dietary fiber, 3mg cholesterol, 167mg sodium
